VerLeigh Ruth Karels

Born January 4, 1939, in Miami, Florida, VerLeigh began her journey through life. She was the only child of Vernon and Bernice (Olson) Anderson.

VerLeigh and her husband, Gerald Karels, were married August 28, 1957. They had two daughters, Rhonda and Rochelle. VerLeigh loved her family and was a very avid fan of horseback riding and loved all animals. She worked for many years at US Federal Credit Union and retired in 2007. She spent most of her retirement with family and friends, mainly hosted by John and Rhonda. VerLeigh and her mother lived together for 23 years and spent a lot of time traveling and enjoying life together. She loved visiting with her children and grandchildren enjoying what they had to say, quietly listening and giving positive advice to whatever they said. She was a loving daughter, mother and grandmother.

As of Saturday, May 22, 2021, VerLeigh’s life journey was completed. She was 82 years old.

VerLeigh is survived by her mother Bernice Anderson of Blaine; daughters Rhonda (John) Melom of Cambridge, Rochelle Borg of Blaine; grandchildren Corey (Abbie) Melom, Sharia Melom (Rob Swanson), Marcus Mold, Jarod Mold, Jordan Mold; 4 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her father Vernon H. Anderson; husband Gerald Karels.

Father Robert Nygaard will celebrate a Mass of Christian Burial for VerLeigh at 10:30 AM; Thursday, June 3, 2021 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Rush City. A time of visitation and reviewal is planned from 5-8 PM; Wednesday (6/2/21) at the Olson Funeral Chapel in Rush City and also one hour prior to the Mass at the church. The interment will take place in Calvary Catholic Cemetery, Rush City.
