Wayne Roger Dehkes Sr.

September 10, 1948 — January 19, 2020

Wayne Roger Dehkes Sr. of Pine City passed away Sunday, January 19, 2020 peacefully at his home surrounded by his family at the age of 71.

Wayne was born September 10, 1948 to Reynold and Alda (Krats) Dehkes in Minneapolis, Minnesota.

In 1967, Wayne graduated from Spring Lake Park High School and enlisted in the United States Navy where he proudly fought for our country in the Vietnam war.  While he was home on leave, he met the love of his life, Rosemary Yarco.  On February 21, 1970, Wayne returned home and married Rosemary.  Together they had two sons, Eric and Adam, while residing in the metro area.  In 1975, Wayne and Rose moved to Pine City where they eventually purchased land near Chengwatana Forest.  After moving to Pine City, Wayne and Rose had two more sons, Wayne Jr. and Nathan, as well as a daughter, Melisa.

With Wayne's family by his side, he worked hard to clear his land and provide a quiet, country life for them.  He raised his sons and daughter with an appreciation for hard work, discipline and a love for the outdoors.  He was a respected mechanic, fisherman, hunter and horseshoe pitcher.  His pride and joy was his children and grandchildren.  He was dedicated to teaching them everything he knew and his legacy and perseverance will live on through them.  His unique soul and his giving heart will be greatly missed.

Wayne is survived by his wife Rosemary Dehkes; children Eric (Jessica) Dehkes of Pine City, Adam (Lisa) Dehkes of Cambridge, Wayne (Cindy) Dehkes Jr. of Pine City, Nathan (Heather) Dehkes of Pine City, Melisa (Mike) Dehkes of Pine City; 13 grandchildren; 1 great-grandchild; brother Bruce Dehkes of Pine City; sister Karen Rousu of Pine City; many other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents Reynold & Alda Dehkes.

A Celebration of Wayne's Life will be held from 1-4 PM; Saturday (2/1/2020) at the Chengwatana Town Hall just northeast of Pine City.  A private family interment honoring Wayne's service to our country in the United States Navy will be held at Fort Snelling National Cemetery in Minneapolis.
